The Bald Cypress is a large deciduous tree with a moderate to fast growth rate. Adapts to a wide range of soils and will tolerate wet conditions. The leaves turn a coppery color in the fall. The growth shape tends to be pyramidal in habit. The bark is red-brown and vertically fissured which creates almost a stringy texture. The main trunk of the bald cypress is usually surrounded by knees.
